Picking a dog care app takes about ten minutes. Picking the right one takes longer, because four listings say the same four things and none of them mentions what happens when your partner wants in too.

The sitter gets in without a phone negotiation. They open the invite link in whatever browser is already on their phone and start logging. No app store, no install, no waiting for a download on somebody else's wifi.

For two people, most of a feature list is noise. Two things decide it: what it costs to add the second person, and what that person has to install before they can log anything.

The browser row matters more for a couple than it looks. If your partner is on Android, or simply does not want a fifth app on their phone, a link they can open and use settles the question in a minute. It also means the person who did not choose the app gets to try it before committing to anything.

When another app is the better pick

Three dogs and no subscription. PawLog covers one dog on the free plan and the rest of the pack on Plus. DogLog, DogNote and Pawlo all handle several pets. If a full house of dogs on a free plan is the requirement, start with those.

A proper medical record. 11pets keeps deworming, x-rays, blood work, allergies and surgeries, and tells you when the next one is due. PawLog logs vet visits, medication and weight, and stops a long way short of that. A dog with a chronic condition generates paperwork, and 11pets is built for the paperwork.

Logging from your wrist. DogNote records from an Apple Watch, from Siri and from widgets. PawLog is a phone and a browser. If your hands are full of leash at the moment you want to log the walk, that difference is the whole thing.

The question that decides your monthly cost

Feature checklists compare well and bill differently. Four apps can offer the same twelve things and still leave you with four different invoices, because the line between free and paid sits somewhere different in each one.

So when you are down to two, find the sharing terms before the feature list. How many people, and on which plan. It is the setting that turns a free app into a subscription three weeks after you install it, usually on the evening your partner finally agrees to use the thing.
